Questions and Answers About the CAPETRUCK

What driver’s license do I need for the CAPETRUCK?

You need a Class C1 license. The CAPETRUCK has a gross vehicle weight rating of 7,000 kg. A standard Class B passenger car driver’s license is only valid up to 3.5 metric tons. Do you still have the old Class 3 license from before 1999? If so, you can drive the CAPETRUCK without taking an additional test. Newly obtained Class C1 licenses are valid for five years. To renew it, you’ll need a medical certificate.

How much does a CAPETRUCK cost?

A new CAPETRUCK with all the extras costs 560,000 euros, including VAT. This includes the complete expedition equipment, such as a solar system, Starlink, winch, and combustion toilet. I’m offering the current prototype for 420,000 euros. It has been field-tested on long-distance trips. You can find all the details under “Features & Prices.”

What variants and floor plans are available?

There are two cabin variants in one length. You can sleep either in the alcove or in the electric lift-up bed.

How self-sufficient is the CAPETRUCK?

Very self-sufficient. Four lithium batteries, each with a capacity of 165 Ah, store the electricity. Seven solar panels with a total output of 950 Wp recharge the four lithium batteries. The 250-liter fresh water tank lasts about two weeks for two people. Heating and hot water run on diesel from the 240-liter tank. In North America, I traveled for ten weeks without shore power.

How much fuel does the CAPETRUCK based on the Iveco Daily 4x4 consume?

Expect to use 22 to 24 liters of diesel per 100 km. Over 15,450 km across North America, my average was 24 liters. On flat terrain, it was 20 to 21 liters. The Daily uses about 0.8 liters of AdBlue per 100 km. With the 240-liter tank, you can travel about 1,000 km.

How capable is the CAPETRUCK off-road?

The Iveco Daily 4x4 features four-wheel drive, a low-range gear, and up to three differential locks. Ground clearance is up to 230 mm. An aluminum exoskeleton protects the cab from twisting. A winch and sand plates are on board for emergencies. If you wish, you can use bead-lock rims with run-flat rings, which allow for very low tire pressure in sand.

Can I get service and replacement parts while on the road?

Almost everywhere, except North America. Iveco has a nearly global network of service centers. The Daily is a widely used commercial vehicle. That’s why you can find replacement parts even in remote regions. The body features proven components, such as those from Victron and Truma. In Canada, I even bypassed a faulty jack control unit myself. The robust standard technology makes this possible.

Is the CAPETRUCK also available with different electrical outlets—and perhaps 110V instead of 230V?

The power supply can be customized. Other voltages and different outlets—such as those for Switzerland or the U.S.—are available.

Is the CAPETRUCK winter-ready?

Yes. The double floor with the water tanks is frost-proof. 60-mm-thick exterior walls insulate the cab. Two diesel auxiliary heaters warm the air and water. In Canada, when it was below 10 degrees outside, it was 17 degrees inside—and that was without using the heater at all.
